Siri hates New Zealand accents

November 2, 2015

When Emma asked me to co-host the travel link up this month I began thinking about what I would write, and how I could make my travel link up posts better. The topic wasn’t my first choice, I’ll admit. I had no realΒ  idea of what I could contribute to “favourites” that would have a travel theme. But I really thought about, I let it mull and then I had a breakthrough!

Here’s the thing about me: sometimes I have questions. When I go to ask these questions, sometimes people say to me, “why don’t you just ask Siri?”

I’ll tell you why I don’t just ask Siri, it’s because she /he doesn’t understand a New Zealand accent. Even if you put your iPhone on the new(ish) New Zealand accent setting, it still doesn’t have a frigging clue what you’re talking about

So I made this video with my husband to illustrate our pain at having to actually type out our pressing questions. Why you hate us so much, Siri? Why? This is also representative of our everyday pain at having travelled to a far away place where no one understands us. I apologise in advance for my mangled vowel sounds and shrieking laughter.

Basically, this is a collection of my favourite things to say in a New Zealand accent, if you’re trying to confuse the duck out of everyone. Also, I’m aware that my iPhone is really old. I’m poor and nostalgic.

Please join the travel link up! You have until the 7th November 2015 to add your blog post to the Link Up by clicking the blue frog below. It just needs to vaguely relate to the topic of “favourites”. Once you’re all linked up we can be one big, happy family of bloggy readers, followers and sharers. It’s gonna be special!

Siri is such a disappointing prude!

  • Siri: “That’s not nice”. I laughed! Seriously, though, you think she’d be better equipped to handle all kinds of accents.

    • I got the New Zealand accent update. As you can see, I’m not entirely sure what they updated πŸ˜‰

  • I’ve never got to grips with Siri – thankfully!

Oh God, this reminds me of the old bot on MSN that was meant to be a friend for users and yet inevitably became a punching bag after a few minutes…

Also, congrats on being from New Zealand – I’m pretty sure that’s the highest honour!

  • This is amazing! Love your ‘judgemental bitch’ response – so funny!

    • Hehe, thank you πŸ™‚
She really needs to sort herself out. I am her master.

  • This is brilliant, Siri also can’t handle Scottish accents I always have to get my other half to speak because he is much more eloquent that I.
